Let me tell you a bit about my book, “Your Best Skin” published by Hardie Grant Publishing. You see, my goal was to create something that makes skincare genuinely accessible and easy for everyone to understand. I really wanted to cut through all the confusing jargon and sometimes unkind messages you find in the beauty industry.

What I’ve put together is a straightforward, jargon-free guide to the basics of skincare, and I encourage you to think of your routine as a proper bit of self-care that’s actually rooted in science. To help you figure out what works best for your skin, I’ve included helpful bits and pieces like quizzes, flowcharts, and clear explanations of ingredients, alongside some example routines, because I know full well that skincare isn’t a one-size-fits-all situation.

There’s a whole chapter dedicated to helping you get to grips with those often baffling skincare labels. My aim there was to empower you to figure out for yourself whether a product will actually deliver on its promises. I even make a point of explaining the important principle that “the dose makes the poison”, using alcohol as a prime example to show how an ingredient can be really useful in the right amounts but not so good in high concentrations.

I’ve explained clearly what you can glean from an ingredients list, such as whether it contains active ingredients that align with what the product claims to do and a rough idea of how much of each ingredient is in there. It also helps you identify any potential allergens or ingredients you might personally want to avoid. But equally important, I also point out what you can’t determine just from the list, like how the product will actually feel or perform on your skin – it’s a bit like not knowing how a cake will taste just by looking at the recipe.

I dedicated a chapter specifically to sunscreen to bust some of the common myths and misinformation around it. Writing this whole book was quite the undertaking for me, and I actually learned a lot about what I’m capable of in the process. Ultimately, the core message I want to get across is that your skin’s health is simply a matter of biology, not a judgment of whether you’re ‘good’ or ‘bad’, and as long as it’s doing its main job of protecting you, that’s what truly matters.

Writing it was a real journey for me, and I’m incredibly proud of what it offers – a chance to ditch the overwhelming noise and feel empowered to make the best choices for your skin. So, if you’re looking for a caring and straightforward approach to skincare, I really hope you’ll give it a read!
